About Mwanga
An independent assessment service in Blackpool, set up to shorten the wait for people who need answers.
Why Mwanga exists
Access to ADHD and autism assessment is often too slow. Long waiting times leave children, young people and adults without the answers they need and without a clear understanding of their needs, it becomes harder to access the right support at school, at work, or in everyday life.
Mental capacity assessments present a different problem. They're often needed urgently, when an important decision is on hold yet finding an independent, appropriately qualified assessor at short notice can be surprisingly hard.
Mwanga exists to close both gaps. Based in Blackpool, we provide independent, person- centred assessments that are accessible, responsive, and built around the individual.
Our clinical team
Clinician details in progress.
Clinical lead
Registered Mental Health Nurse and qualified Best Interests Assessor. Carries out capacity, best interests, risk and care planning assessments.
Prescribing
Independent nurse prescriber with specialist ADHD training, who will oversee medication where it is appropriate once the neurodevelopmental service opens.
How we work
Independent
We are not part of the organisation asking the question. That independence is the point of instructing us.
Within our scope
We are clear about what we can and cannot do. Where an assessment needs a psychiatrist or paediatrician, we say so rather than stretching a scope of practice.
Written down
Every piece of work produces a written report with reasoning you can follow and check, not just a conclusion.
In the community
Mwanga is not only an assessment service. We take part in mental health awareness work across Blackpool, including community events and stalls where people can pick up information without having to make an appointment or explain themselves to anyone.
The merchandise came out of that. It is a light way of saying something that people often need permission to hear.
